The Healing Home
Classical Feng Shui from a Modern Point of View
Our homes reflect us -- that's no secret. The correlary of that
truth is that we reflect our homes -- we absorb the energy, mood,
and messages of the environment we live in. The ancient Chinese
Daoists understood this and developed a system to study and "cure"
the energy of the home. That system was called Feng Shui, and it
was considered a healing art, one of the Eight Branches of Traditional
Chinese Medicine. Feng Shui, like Chinese Medicine, grew out
of Five-Element Theory, which explained the energetic properties
of matter as represented by Fire, Earth, Metal, Water, and Wood.
I have been thoroughly trained in the tradition of Classical compass-style
Feng Shui to balance the energy of the home. I also bring to it
an understanding of the ways our homes can support or undermine
us on a conscious and unconscious level. As a hypnotherapist, I
see the home as a projection of both personality and soul. My job
is to help my clients "program" their homes with the positive
messages they need in order to achieve their goals.
Classical Feng Shui is the type of Feng Shui that has historically
been most widely practiced in China, Hong Kong, and Taiwan. The
techniques of the compass school examine the house relative to the
cardinal directions. (There are interesting parallels between this
ancient practice and modern solar design.) In my work I use a unique
instrument -- a special compass, developed by my teacher, Roger
Green, that offers a translation of the traditional Chinese
compass for English-speaking practitioners of Feng Shui.
Consultations
Clients may opt for a one-visit or two-visit format.
One-visit format:
I interview the client to determine life goals. Then together we
walk through the dwelling and yard. I take compass measurements
and do an EMF (electromagnetic field) survey. Guided by my client's
preferences and my compass and EMF readings, I make recommendations
to improve the energy of the home. A brief written report follows
in the mail.
Two-visit format:
In the two-visit format, I return for a second visit with a plan
of the house and a full written report that summarizes my findings.
The plan illustrates my recommendations regarding the Five Elements
with colorful stamps; it also includes the lucky stars of the home,
which I find by making a Flying Star chart for the home based on
its year of construction. The detailed report incorporates a personal
Five-Element Analysis for each member of the household. This is
used to determine which elements are most supportive to the client(s).
